STEM- Day: February 6, 2024, STEM-day

On February 6, 2024, Civil Air Patrol participated in the 2024 STEM-day at Nellis AFB.  Clark County School District students met with security forces Airmen who explained the abilities of MWDs and robotic dogs.  The 99th Civil Engineer Squadron gave students the opportunity to put on a bomb suit helmet.  EOD Airmen provided a bomb suit demonstration and students toured the inside of a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle.  During the event, students were able to see two F-16 Fighting Falcons, an F-15C Eagle and interact with a variety of career fields including pilots, firefighters and engineers. Students talked to an F-15C pilot and ask them questions about the aircraft and what it’s like to work in aviation.  A Halvorsen Loader is a rapidly deployable, high-reach mechanized aircraft loader that can transport and lift up to 25,000 pounds of cargo and load it onto military and civilian aircraft. Students explored the inside of a Humvee, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal truck to better understand the technology needed to perform tactical jobs within the Air Force.  The Thunderbirds demonstrate the capabilities of the Air Force’s premier multi-role fighter jet, the F-16 Fighting Falcon and what being a demonstration pilot looks like during day-to-day training.
